The other day I was hanging up some laundry and it seemed everywhere I turned there was a monarch butterfly. It’s astonishing to note that over the course of three or four generations these little creatures will fly all the way south to Mexico – or maybe even the northern regions of South America – and stay there for the winter before starting the journey back north to summer here in Canada. I’m guessing that this little one, who seemed content to pose for me, was female because of the darker colours. Unlike birds, the male monarchs are more pale than the females.
