Exeter has its share of fires – houses, barns, crop fires – but a fire on Main Street is rare. The buildings are old and while some have been restored and cared for, others have not been maintained as well. Yesterday afternoon there was a fire that had the whole town buzzing in a Main Street building that has seen better days. Local social media was alive with former residents sharing links from across the continent and wishing their former hometown well. At this point, it doesn’t appear than anyone was injured.
We are so fortunate to have well trained and dedicated fire fighters in our town and region. Several departments responded to the original call and worked with Exeter’s fire fighters to contain the blaze and avoid damage to neighbouring buildings. Exeter’s fire fighters were called to the scene again at 3 AM as the fire revived.
Today the Main Street is closed down as the Fire Marshall’s office investigates what has been declared a crime scene.
